Toileting

Developing independence with toileting is an important milestone for young children and can play a key role in helping them feel confident and ready for school. Every child develops at their own pace, and we understand that this journey may look different for each family.

At High View, we encourage parents and carers to begin establishing toileting routines at home wherever possible. Consistent routines help children build confidence, develop independence, and feel secure in managing their personal care. Our staff are committed to working in partnership with families to support children throughout this process and provide a positive, encouraging environment.

Some helpful ways to support your child at home include:

  • Establishing regular toileting times throughout the day.
  • Using clear and simple language to explain the steps involved.
  • Celebrating successes and progress to build confidence.
  • Encouraging children to manage clothing independently where possible.
  • Maintaining open communication with school staff about any concerns or challenges.

Remember that accidents are a normal part of learning, and patience, consistency, and encouragement can make a big difference.

The resources below provide further information, advice, and practical support to help families with toileting and other aspects of children's development.
