School Governors
Welcome to the High View Governing body page. Here
you will find information regarding our role and how we support the
school.
What is the role of the governing Body?
The head teacher is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school. The Governing body are a group of volunteers who give up large amounts of their own time to support the staff and act as a critical friend by providing strategic management. They help to maintain high standards of educational achievement, manage the school’s finances, make sure that the curriculum is balanced and broadly based and aid in the appointment of staff.
The Governing body has four categories of governor:
Parent Governor:
These are parents or guardians of
children currently at the school and are elected by the parents and
guardians.
Staff governor
: These are members of the school staff and are elected by the staff plus the Head teacher.Community governors
: These are co-opted by the governing body and are representative of the local community.
LEA governors:
They can be nominated by
At
High View we have:
3 Staff Governors
4 Community Governors
3 LEA Governors
The Chairman is Roger Savill and Vice-Chair is Jayson Chase. The Governing Body works through four committees; Curriculum, Personnel, Premises and Finance. Governors meet four times a year at full meetings and three times in committee.
The Governing Body has a strategic role in setting aims and objectives, agreeing targets, budgets, policies and priorities and monitoring effectiveness. It also evaluates the school’s performance through results and data, outside agency reports and the School Development Plan.
The range of skill, talent, experience and expertise among the Governors is considerable and this enables the Governing Body to support the school across many areas and in many different ways. Professional expertise supports subject areas, educational visits, pastoral issues, premises inspection and building projects for example. Each Governor is linked with a subject department and regular contact is both encouraged and appreciated.
Governors form the required range of panels, and appeal panels, necessary for disciplinary, exclusion and professional issues.
We are an enthusiastic and dedicated group and enjoy the school’s successes and progress. However, we take our role of ‘critical friend’ very seriously and challenge Senior Leadership on issues of performance and effectiveness. We achieve the very best that we can for the school through our dealings with the Local Authority.
The Governing Body is presently comprised of the following:
